A ceremony to commemorate the victorious Hwaryeongjang Battle

A ceremony to commemorate the victorious Hwaryeongjang Battle was held on July 21th at Hwaryeong elementary school in Hwaseo-myeon, Sangju-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do where the battle had broken out.

About 1600 people including Lee Jong-jeong, the Vice Minister of MPVA, participants of the Korean War, representatives from all walks of life, local union delegates, residents, students, and soldiers attended the ceremony.

Hwaryeongjang Battle was in the early stage of the Korean War(from July 17th 1950 to July 25th), in which South Korean troops were suffered from repeated lost battles. However, this battle made a big turnover killing 600 North Koreans around Hwaryeongjang area. 4 South Korean soldiers were killed during the war. Besides, it earned the time to establish boundary around Nakdong River. As a reward for their bravery, all the members of the Korean troop got a special promotion of one rank.
