A Ceremony marking the Completion of Icheon National Cemetery

The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs will hold a ceremony to celebrate the completion of Icheon National Cemetery at 3:00 PM of April 30th. The cemetery is completed to provide burial services and assistances to persons who rendered distinguished services to the country, war veterans and long-term ex-servicemen in the metropolitan area of Seoul.

At the ceremony attend high-ranking government officials including Prime Minister Han Seung-soo, Minister Kim Yang of MPVA, Gyeonggi-do Provincial Governor Kim Moon-soo, and war veterans and residents.

Icheon National Cemetery is the third of its kind following Imsil National Cemetery and Yeongcheon National Cemetery, with 304,355 square meters in area costing 38.3 billion won.

The Cemetery was built environmentally-friendly, where various statues including a memorial tower are placed harmoniously to convey historical image of a national cemetery signifying the connection of past, present and future of a nation.

The MPVA said that it expects the completion of the Cemetery will give people a meaningful opportunity to honor the sacrifice and contribution of persons who rendered distinguished services to the country and war veterans, and serve as a place of education that instills people with patriotism.

The ministry went on to say the Cemetery has great significance in that the nation fulfills the responsibility for caring for aged persons who sacrificed themselves to the country in a timely manner.
