The 26th Commemorative Ceremony Marking the May 18th Democratization Movement

- A Variety of commemorative ceremonies including memorial, pre and hands-on events were held

The 26th Commemorative Ceremony for May 18th Democratization Uprising was held at the 5.18 National Cemetery at 10am Thursday morning in the southern city of Kwangju to refresh the noble spirit of the democratic movement including democracy, justice and respect for human rights, and to promote national harmony and development.

The occasion attended by about 3,000 people including President Noh Moo Hyun, key government officials, meritorious persons and bereaved family members, members of May 18th related organizations, distinguished figures from various areas, students and ordinary citizens was held solemnly.

Starting from a memorial ceremony on 17th (Wed), the 5.18 Democratic Uprising Reenactment events will be held at Keumnam St and old Jeonnam Provincial Office area.
In addition, handwriting, youth speech and essay contests, Kwangju Human Rights Awarding Ceremony, and other hands-on and cultural events will be held throughout May.
