The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs (Minister: Park Sungchoon) hosts 130 Korean War veterans from 17 countries on the occasion of the 63rd anniversary of the United Forces Participation and Armistice Agreement Day.
The major events include the followings:
On Sunday the veterans and family visit the Seoul War Memorial to have a wreath laying and memorial service.
The following day, they make the DMZ tour, a de facto border barrier that divides the Korean Peninsula. The demilitarized zone was established at the end of the Korean War to serve as a buffer zone between the Republic of Korea and the North.
On Tuesday, 26th, the MPVA holds a preview screening of a movie, Operation Chromite, a 2016 Korean war drama film based on the real-life events of the Battle of Inchon.
On the 63rd Anniversary of the UN Forces Participation and Armistice Agreement, Wednesday, the special visitors from the 17 countries attend the commemorative ceremony in the morning and the guest of honor at the Thank You Banquet hosted by the Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs. During the commemorative ceremony, 3 Korean War veterans receive the Order of Military Merit issued by the Korean President for their exceptional military service and outstanding gallantry during the Korean War.
