- Thank you for visiting the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs website.
- The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs is implementing a wide range of policies aimed at providing adequate compensation to individuals with distinguished service to the Nation, bereaved families and dependants and assisting veterans to ensure their smooth transition to civilian life. These policies are also designed to remember and preserve the noble spirit of those who have contributed to independence, freedom and democracy in our country.
- The Veterans Affairs policy direction this year lies in guaranteeing stable life for Persons of Distinguished Service, successfully conducting various commemorative projects, and further developing systems to support patriots and veterans.
- This year holds a significant meaning for the Korean people as it marks the anniversary of several occasions including 60th anniversary of the Korean War, 100th anniversary of death of Patriotic Martyr An, Jung-gun, 100th anniversary of the forceful Annexation of Korea by Japan, 50th anniversary of April 19 Revolution, and 30th anniversary of May 18 Democratic Movement.
- Our ministry is committed to successfully holding related commemorative events, which is expected to result in promotion and inspiration of patriotic spirit and a sense of national pride. We are also determined to preserve the legacy of those who made noble sacrifices and great contributions to the nation.
- To commemorate the 60th anniversary of the outbreak of the Korean War, the Korean government is preparing for diverse projects and events. I firmly believe that these programs would allow us to express the deep gratitude to Veterans of the UN forces and their family members and promote commitment for peace among the Korean War UN allied nations. This determination is well reflected in the new year address of President Lee Myung-bak made on January 4, in which he said that Korea would never forget those who came to a distant land and sacrificed their lives to defend our freedom.
- With the chairmanship of the G20 Summit to be held this November, Korea is to play a leading role in the international arena, which makes this year even more meaningful for Korea. The Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs will make every effort to create an environment where people pay profound respect to Persons with Distinguished Service and instill patriotism in the general public, all of which can lead to building a Greater Korea.
- I wish all of you good health and happiness.
- Thank you.
-
