  • Persons who gave distinguished service for National Independence
  • Those who protested against Japan¡¯s rule or joined the Independence Movement in or outside the country between 1915, when Korea lost its independence to 1945. 8. 14 when Korea regained independence, and those who have received the Order of Merit, the Merit Medal, or Presidential Commendation for National Foundation
  • Soldiers and police officers killed or disabled in action
  • Military service members or police officers killed or injured in combat or during duty equivalent to combat
  • Civilian employees of the military killed or disabled in combat or while on duty equivalent to combat until Dec 31, 1959
  • Soldiers and police officers killed or disabled on duty
  • Military service members or police officers who died (including death due to service-related ailments) or discharged due to injuries received while on duty or in training
  • April 19th Revolution participants
  • Those killed or injured in the April 19th Revolution in 1960, or who received the Medal of National Foundation for their role in the Revolution
  • Public officials deceased or disabled on duty
  • National or local government officials deceased or disabled while on duty
  • Agent Orange Victims
  • Discharged service members who fought in the Vietnam war or were on duty close to the southern limit line and are suffering from ailments recognized by law as aftereffects of exposure to Agent Orange
  • Meritorious War Veterans
  • Service members and police officers who served in the Korean War and were later discharged, or those whose participation was confirmed by the Minister of Defense or the Chief of National Police
  • Service members who fought in the Vietnam War and were later discharged
  • Veterans
  • Service members who were discharged after completing their military service according to the Military Service Act, or Military Personnel Act. Veterans are categorized into mid-term service (5 years or more) or long-term service (10 years or more)
  • Special Missions Personnel
  • Those who carried out special missions or received related training, and were killed, injured or gone missing as a result
  • Bereaved Families
  • Spouses, children, and parents qualify as Survivors and are eligible to receive statutory compensation. Grandchildren also qualify in the case of Persons of Distinguished Services to National Independence
